چکیده

The self-assembly of a stimuli-responsive aqueous supramolecular hyperbranched polymer from small molecules is reported. This system is composed of ditopic and tritopic guest-functionalised molecules that are able to form heteroternary supramolecular complexes with the macrocyclic host cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]). We demonstrate that the supramolecular hyperbranched polymer formed is responsive to both photoand chemical stimuli, exhibiting reversibility. Furthermore, this system is shown to assemble at liquid–liquid interfaces, which upon gelation, is observable on the micrometre scale. This self-healing supramolecular network can act as a soft matter barrier for aqueous microdroplets, inhibiting their coalescence.

Self-assembly of amphiphilic Janus dendrimers into mechanically robust supramolecular hydrogels for sustained drug release.

Compounds that can gelate aqueous solutions offer an intriguing toolbox to create functional hydrogel materials for biomedical applications. Amphiphilic Janus dendrimers with low molecular weights can readily form self-assembled fibers at very low mass proportion (0.2 wt %) to create supramolecular hydrogels (G'≫G'') with outstanding mechanical properties and storage modulus of G'>1000 Pa. The ...

Strong circularly polarized luminescence from the supramolecular gels of an achiral gelator: tunable intensity and handedness† †Electronic supplementary information (ESI) available: Additional figures. See DOI: 10.1039/c5sc01056j Click here for additional data file.

Although the importance of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials has been widely recognized, the CPL responses of supramolecular gels are still rarely studied. Moreover, developing CPL materials based on supramolecular gels is of great significance, due to their special advantages and important applications. Herein, we report the first circularly polarized supramolecular gels self-a...

Anisotropic Self-Assembly of Supramolecular Polymers and Plasmonic Nanoparticles at the Liquid–Liquid Interface

The study of supramolecular polymers in the bulk, in diluted solution, and at the solid-liquid interface has recently become a major topic of interest, going from fundamental aspects to applications in materials science. However, examples of supramolecular polymers at the liquid-liquid interface are mostly unexplored. Here, we describe the supramolecular polymerization of triarylamine molecules...

Self-assembled liquid-crystalline gels designed from the bottom up.

Liquid crystals are often combined with polymers to influence the liquid crystals' orientation and mechanical properties, but at the expense of reorientation speed or uniformity of alignment. We introduce a new method to create self-assembled nematic liquid-crystal gels using an ABA triblock copolymer with a side-group liquid-crystalline midblock and liquid-crystal-phobic endblocks. In contrast...
